It may also be used with 901 Series V speakers. The BoseR 901R Series VI active equalizer is designed for specific use withīose 901 Series VI speakers. The below is from the Series VI owners manual. The equalizer balances the output of all speaker frequencies to provide natural tonal balance and clarity for an exceptional music experience.
These are the specs I found when doing some digging. If damage was possible, would it be to the receiver/amp, the speakers or the equalizer.

The speakers are an array of small drivers designed in a way that requires the signal to be equalized and pre-amplified, and if you don’t use the Active Equalizer they’ll sound pretty bad, lacking much in the way of bass or treble. If the EQ is on the surround channels they will sound um strange (all lows and highs with no mids) and potentially damage the surround speakers. The EQ'd signal will be required on the front stereo channels for the 901's to sound right but not on the surround channels. I know little to nothing about electronics and would love for someone with knowledge to chime in. I'm researching this topic as we speak.I called Bose Technical support and asked if I could use a Series IV equalizer with Series V speakers and they said it would work but could cause damage because of the impedence difference. CD player output > 901 EQ amplifier input 901 EQ amplifier output > receiver CD input.
